Hand-poured on the Dorset coast
Dorset Wax & Wicks is Natalie's. Every fragrance, every pour and every finished candle starts with her: a love of home comforts, a nose for a good scent and a perfectionist's eye for the smallest detail. What began in 2021 as an idea at the kitchen table is now a small Dorset business with customers who come back, season after season, for the candles, wax melts and diffusers she makes by hand.

From Surrey to the sea
In 2019 our family swapped Surrey for Dorset. We traded the commute for coastal paths, Saturday mornings on the beach and evenings that finally felt like evenings. Home became the place we most wanted to be, and Natalie noticed how much a good candle changed a room: the light, the mood, the feeling of coming in from a windy walk. The trouble was that the candles she loved cost a small fortune, and the affordable ones hardly smelled of anything once they were lit.

From kitchen table to pouring room
By 2021 the idea wouldn't go away: really good scented candles at a price you'd light on an ordinary Tuesday, not save for best. So Natalie started pouring at the kitchen table in the evenings, testing waxes, wicks and fragrance oils, burning and re-burning, and writing everything down. Cesca was the first fragrance to make it through. Then came family and friends, a small online shop and a lot of word of mouth, with wax melts, reed diffusers and hand wash following, each only when it was right. The kitchen table is now a proper pouring room, and many of today's orders come from people who've been with us since the beginning.

How we make them
Every candle is still poured by hand, in small batches, and cured for no less than two weeks before it's ready to be sold, so the fragrance settles and fills the room evenly. Our candles use a vegetable & mineral wax blend, in clear glass. Our wax melts use a soy & mineral blend, with the same fragrance oils as the candles. Natalie lives with every new fragrance at home before it reaches the shop, and nothing is deemed ready unless she'd be proud to give it as a gift.

Our fragrances
Today there are sixteen. Four Signatures stay with us all year: Cesca, White Sands, Coast and Cosy. The rest follow the Dorset year: rhubarb and jasmine in spring, roses and coconut in summer, pumpkin and honey in autumn, and orange, clove and gingerbread when Christmas comes round. Some stay for a season or two, then make way for something new, which is half the fun.
